Meet our Team
Chante Salicksingh
Hi, I’m Chanté! Pronounced, Shawn-Taye. For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about helping people who are struggling in their relationships (even the one they have with themselves). Why? Because I wholeheartedly believe that the state of one's relationships greatly impacts all the other areas of their life. In short: When our relationships don’t feel good, neither do we. My former work as a relationship coach guided me towards eventually completing my Honours Bachelor of Science degree with a Specialist in Mental Health from the University of Toronto, and Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Windsor. I have worked in both community mental health and private practice settings for a total of 8+ years, which as a combination has provided me a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of the human experience, as well as an understanding of how important effective support is. All that being said, relationship issues tend to be my main squeeze, however alongside that I support individuals (18+) within a wider range of areas including: depression, anxiety, self-esteem, racial/cultural identity, unemployment, life transitions, and anger and stress management. I also provide premarital counselling for young couples, and would consider myself knowledgeable in and an advocate for men’s mental health. As a mixed woman of color with multiple intersecting identities, who was raised in Scarborough alongside other racialized communities and immigrant families, I have a lot of lived experience and naturally connect with folks from diverse backgrounds. I take pride in being relatable and understanding, ensuring that clients feel comfortable and supported throughout their therapy journey. My approach is collaborative, culturally-sensitive and strengths-based. When I’m not working, I’m either listening to a self-development podcast, decluttering my closet for the hundredth time, or having a dance party with my kiddos. I’m also a huge bookworm, but can’t seem to complete any lately within this season of motherhood!

Zaamilah Balasubramaniam
Have you ever noticed the weight of your stress sitting within your physical body? Can you name the area(s) where you hold tension? Often when we think about improving our mental health, we focus on talk therapy alone, but the mind and body are so interconnected that it can be very beneficial to explore them simultaneously when you are looking at your wellness as a whole. Meet Zaamilah, a Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a background in yoga and mindfulness. Zaamilah embodies the spiritual, mental and physical, whilst creating a space for clients to safely explore their feelings, emotions, and unique experiences. She assists clients to gain the strength and resilience to navigate life’s many challenges, and works collaboratively to not only develop healthy coping mechanisms, but to unlock a transformative power within, in order to help them see through their therapy goals. Zaamilah works from a trauma-informed lens, primarily with individual children and adults, in various areas from: depression, stress, anxiety, anger management, low self-esteem and more. She also enjoys counselling newcomers as they assimilate to life here in Ontario. Her style is eclectic, combining various frameworks to get the job done, but always listens first and foremost, ensuring your comfort with any therapeutic approach or strategy she tries. Zaamilah obtained her Master’s degree from Yorkville University and is a Qualifying Registered Psychotherapist with the CRPO. Beyond therapy and teaching yoga classes, Zaamilah volunteers at charity organizations, extending her commitment to her community and positive impact. Zaamilah is a driven and passionate mental health professional who was called into this work through her own wellness journey. Sessions with Zaamilah can be done in both English and/or Tamil.
Aijia Waithe
Hello! I’m Aijia (pronounced ‘Ey-Gee-Uh)’). As someone who did not always feel seen, I am passionate about making space for others to feel seen. I believe this is what curates feelings of safety and acceptance and helps us all to grow in empowerment. I offer compassion, kindness and knowledge in my work to help create a safe environment for individuals to move towards their desired change. My specialties involve working with the BIPOC community for: anxiety disorders, clinical depression, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, and life transitions. I work from a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive lens - with that in mind, I tend to use both traditional and non-traditional approaches in treatment. Having worked in the performing arts industry for over 16 years, I integrate expressive art techniques with other evidence-based, talk-therapies, such as Acceptance & Commitment therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused therapy (SFT). Using expressive art intervention means that we can use music, art, movement or drama (to name a few) to help identify what we are thinking or feeling. We can also use these tools to help us manage difficult emotions. Research has proven the amazing impact of expressive art when coupled with other evidence-based practices! A beautiful opportunity to honour the art that IS therapy. I see youth (16+), individual adults and couples. When I am not seeing clients, some things I enjoy include: quality time with my husband and son, long distance running, travelling, exploring new aspects of my creativity, singing at my church & organizing my home!
Shakur Nour
We all have different standards that we want to live our lives by - do you know yours? Maybe you do deep down, but have lost hope in bringing that dream to fruition. Difficult circumstances, lived trauma, a lack of direction due to absent parental figures, or even low self-esteem can do that, making it feel impossible to attain any goals (let alone dreams). Good news: hope is not lost! Shakur Nour is JHC’s in-house self-mastery and life coach, working primarily with individuals to help them rise to become the best versions of themselves. Shakur knows what it’s like to try to find your place in the world. As a young male, Shakur went through a period of feeling very dissatisfied with his life, and chose to embark on a path of self-discovery. He studied human potential and the psychology of those who turned their entire lives around. This led to him launching a self-help blog and adopting several mentors, who would then expose him to rich life experiences and wisdom. It wasn’t long before Shakur realized his capabilities as a life coach himself, and began developing solutions for others in their own self-destructive and escapist behavior. When you work with Shakur, you are getting a coach with an array of knowledge and many certifications under his belt (ie. behavior modification, real estate investing, dating and relationships, self-sabotage and so much more). PS - His book collection is to die for! Shakur is especially passionate about helping men and celebrates seeing more men come forward and be intentional about supporting their emotional and mental well-being. Shakur enjoys a simple yet meaningful existence, and believes there is always room in someone's life for transformation.
